You can’t go home again. Until you realize that home is wherever your love is. And your love is you.

Namaste. Winter is coming to an end.

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

I’ve recently been on an Allman Brothers kick, especially for their prolific live material. One highlight I’ve found comes from their second album, and is entitled “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”. Famous tracks such as “Jessica” and “Midnight Rider” aside, I really enjoy the band’s overall groove and their usage of two drummers to achieve a rhythmically varied effect in each song.

Without further ado…

Falling Day

I’ve been listening to Kaki King’s latest album, Junior, and it’s a very pleasing listen. She mixes dark, poppy tracks with longer, heavier, and more brooding instrumental interludes. Her voice is relatively bland, but her sense of melody and motion can’t be denied.

Gay Human Bones – Undefeated At Home.

Hippies

Harlem is the essence of rock music.

Fresh off the release of their second full length album, Hippies, Harlem are gaining a ton of attention for their simplistic style and back to basics approach to music.

Harlem’s latest album is perfect for summer, as it slightly plays off of that ever-popular rock and roll beach sound that has hit the market over the course of the past year.

This trio is easy yet abrasive with a vague sense of edgy thrown in. Not much of what they do is new, but when you take an old standby and perfect it like they have with Hippies, you walk away with something great.

Here is the album’s first video track for the song Gay Human Bones. Apparantly it’s the name of the group’s basketball team, and they’re extremely tough to beat at home.

The Moon, Her Majesty.

Steve Allen on the piano here brings an entire new ambience to this Jack Kerouac peice. It always amazes me how music can enhance other artistic experiences.

Kerouac’s style is so staunch here. If you’re what I’m looking for? Great. If not? The sun still rises.

In some cases, the moon is you. In any case, the moon.
